Thank Goodness You're Here!

Short Description

I worked with Coal Supper to animate all manner of characters and interactives for their laughs-packed slap-heavy video game.

A world of activity

From our main character right the way down to the bin bags in the alley, I brought animation to over 200 elements in this game. Everything in the slightly-odd-but-still-quite-endearing world of Thank Goodness You're Here! was drawn and animated from scratch.

A Bespoke Workflow

In the 16 months I spent on this project we developed and refined an animation workflow as we went, eventually landing on an approach that allowed us to reap the benefits of free drawing at the rough stage and time saving at the final stages. Much of the animation utilised in-engine animation capabilities, however we still wanted to preserves a lot of the snappy movements from our frame by frame roughs, so we adapted a hybrid approach. Characters would therefore often still have multiple arm sprites to swap out wherever position, scale and rotation didn't cut it.

New Skills Who Dis

As animation team lead I spent the longest in Unity, helping to bridge the gap between artist and developer. Over time I picked up an understanding of how the game what built from the back end and was able to design, build animate and test whole working levels by myself.
